Follow-up

Call us before you do anything else

When something goes wrong with a tooth, your first instinct might be to search online or wait to see if it gets better. Our advice: call us first. Even if you can't come in right away, we can walk you through what's happening and what to do in the meantime. A lot of dental emergencies look scarier than they are — and a few of them need attention faster than people realize. A quick phone conversation helps us triage.

What to expect when you call

1

Phone triage

Tell us what's happening and how long it's been going on. We'll tell you how urgent it is, give you any immediate guidance on managing discomfort, and get you scheduled as quickly as we can.

2

Same-day evaluation

Dr. D'Alesio examines the affected tooth and takes X-rays as needed to identify what's going on. We explain what we're seeing and give you a clear picture of what needs to happen.

3

Treatment or stabilization

Wherever possible, we address the issue the same day — whether that's treating a broken tooth, relieving an abscess, or recementing a lost crown. If follow-up is needed, we schedule it before you leave so nothing hangs.

A word about dental anxiety and emergencies

We know that dental anxiety and a dental emergency showing up at the same time is a rough combination. Dr. D'Alesio says it himself — he's not a big fan of getting dental work done either, which is why he takes this stuff seriously. We walk through what we're doing before we do it and check in as we go. By the time you leave, the thing that brought you in is addressed and you know exactly what comes next.

Situations that warrant a call to us

Severe or persistent tooth pain that isn't going away
A broken, chipped, or cracked tooth
A tooth that's been knocked out or knocked loose
A lost crown, filling, or dental bridge
Facial swelling, jaw pain, or signs of infection
Soft tissue injury inside the mouth

Common Questions

How quickly can I get seen?

We do our best to see urgent patients the same day. Call us as early as you can — mornings tend to give us the most flexibility to work you in. We'll always tell you honestly what we can do and give you guidance in the meantime if there's any wait.

What if I knocked out a tooth?

Pick it up by the crown — not the root — and don't scrub it. Rinse it gently with water and keep it moist: either in a glass of milk, or held between your cheek and gum if you can. Time matters here, so call us immediately and head in as quickly as possible.

I have swelling — is that serious?

Dental swelling, especially around the jaw or face, can be a sign of infection and warrants prompt attention. Call us right away. If swelling is spreading rapidly or you're having trouble swallowing or breathing, go to an emergency room — those symptoms go beyond what a dental office can manage.

What if it's after hours?

Call our main number. Our voicemail has guidance for after-hours situations, and we monitor urgent calls when we can. For true emergencies that can't wait, an emergency room can manage pain and infection until we can see you.
