Dental Implants.

Dr. D'Alesio places and restores dental implants for patients in Pittsburgh, Munhall, and the surrounding Steel Valley. A small titanium post is placed into the jawbone and, after healing, supports a custom porcelain crown above the gumline. Unlike a bridge, an implant does not involve neighboring teeth, and because it stimulates the jawbone, it helps prevent the bone loss that follows tooth extraction. Most adults in good general health are candidates — we confirm your situation during a thorough evaluation.

A dental implant is the closest thing we have to replacing a tooth with something that behaves like a tooth. It goes into the jawbone, integrates over time, and holds a crown on top — no neighboring teeth involved.

How an implant actually works

A titanium post — roughly the size of a small screw — is placed into the jawbone where the missing tooth was. Over the next few months, the bone grows around it in a process called osseointegration. Once the post is stable, a custom porcelain crown attaches on top. The result looks, feels, and chews like a real tooth. No clasps, no adhesives, nothing that involves the teeth next to it.

Why the jawbone piece matters

When a tooth is missing, the bone underneath it slowly starts to shrink because there's nothing stimulating it. An implant takes the place of the root and keeps that stimulation going. Over years, that difference becomes visible in the shape of your face. It's one reason why we generally recommend addressing a missing tooth sooner rather than later — though we'll never pressure you, just explain the biology so you can decide.

What we do here — and what we don't

Dr. D'Alesio places and restores single-tooth implants for patients across Pittsburgh, Munhall, and the Steel Valley. We focus on single-tooth replacement — not full-arch cases or All-on-4. If your situation calls for more complex surgery, we'll tell you honestly and refer you to the right specialist. Either way, we want you to get the right care.

The implant process, step by step

1

Evaluation

We review your bone density, health history, and bite to confirm you're a good candidate. This visit tells us exactly what your case involves.

2

Implant placement

The post is placed under local anesthesia. Most patients are surprised at how manageable this visit is.

3

Healing period

The implant integrates with the bone over roughly 3–4 months. You have a temporary restoration during this time.

4

Crown delivery

The custom porcelain crown is attached to the post. This is your final tooth.

Dental implant cost in Pittsburgh

A single implant — post, abutment, and crown — typically runs $3,000 to $5,000 or more in the Pittsburgh area.
If bone grafting is needed first, that affects the total. We'll give you a clear breakdown after your evaluation.
CareCredit and Cherry financing options are available to spread the cost over time.
Most dental insurance plans don't cover implants fully, but may cover portions. We can check your benefits and explain what applies.

Common Questions

How much do dental implants cost in Pittsburgh?

A single dental implant in the Pittsburgh area — including the post, abutment, and crown — typically ranges from $3,000 to $5,000 or more depending on the complexity of your case. If bone grafting is needed, that adds to the total. We provide a full cost breakdown after your evaluation. CareCredit and Cherry financing can help spread the investment over time.

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

Most adults in good general health with enough jawbone are good candidates. Conditions like uncontrolled diabetes or heavy smoking can affect how well the implant heals. We review all of this at your consultation — no guessing.

How long does the implant process take?

From placement to final crown, the process typically takes 3–6 months. Most of that time is the healing period while the implant integrates with the bone — not active treatment time. Some cases may move faster, which we'd discuss after your evaluation.

Does the implant procedure hurt?

It's done under local anesthesia, so you stay comfortable during placement. Post-surgical soreness for a few days is normal and typically managed well with over-the-counter medication. Most patients tell us it was less than they expected.

What's the difference between an implant and a bridge?

An implant replaces the root and the tooth individually — no neighboring teeth are touched, and the jawbone is preserved. A bridge uses the teeth on either side for support, is faster, and doesn't involve surgery. Both work well. We'll walk through both options based on your specific situation.

Do you do All-on-4 or full-arch implants?

We focus on single-tooth implant placement and restoration at Steel Valley Smiles. For full-arch cases, we'll refer you to a trusted specialist who handles that scope of surgery — and we stay involved in the restorative side if that's helpful.
